-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.- (ENG) The security control lady threateningly looks at me, asking for my permission to open my bag. I nod and say "Yes", of course, I know it's her job. She aims to the pocket where I put the Tibetan cymbals (Tingsha). Her gaze gets even sterner. "What's this?" I reply, telling what they are and that I use them in my meditations. The serious gaze fades away, and a light smile arises beyond the uniform. I invite her to struck the cymbals together, to hear the beautiful sound. Her colleague stops his explosives test duties to smile at her unsuccessful attempts, to then witness a different explosion....Stiiiing! Nice one! She made it! Next time try with a gentle strike! She immediately brings the cymbals together, strangling the marvellous vibration. "I put them in a safe place", she says, with the kindness of who lays a baby in the cradle. A flower has just bloomed. The procedures and those professions created to limit/inspect/block the (external) freedom, end up suffocating the human emotions of those who work in these environments, often grey and with no windows. But all this, can't resist the ostensible anachronism of ancient objects and of an aspiring bodhisattva with a boarding pass, replying with a petal caress to the police slap. An extra check to the hand luggage is worth all this. "we try to put the chaos of the universe in chains
and think cos we know where we tied it and there it will remain, we dissect all the pieces, put them in boxes and give them names, we think we’ve got control over the things we can’t explain. Cos you’re only what you leave behind, time is all that kills you while you’re busy killing time and you’re only what you leave behind, for your material possessions and your unanswered questions, you will find, was the world a better place cos you were in it or did you just toe the line? [...] I wonder why we search so hard for a purpose when our purpose has only ever been to be kind." (Leave Behind - by Phat Bollard) - A special thank to Alice, my friend with Irish ears and heart, for writing down the lyrics of this song for me!

- -.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.- ENG
In Malaysia, people practice many of the main religions: sometimes it's even hard to remember what country I'm in. This magnificent melting-pot of cultures and ethnic groups, and therefore of temples and rituals, went by the arm with my curiosity for others' spirituality. I dedicated a day to a swim through their prayers, carefully observing three of the main religions found here, i.e. Islam, Chinese Buddhism and Hinduism. It's been a "unifying" experience, very delicate but emotional, where I could witness how so different traditions can then peacefully live together. I dedicated the title of this post to 3 very important elements that enriched my tiny spiritual journey: - the Hinduist bindi - the Islamic hijab - the Buddhist and Hinduist swastika, sadly become famous in the West for other kinds of ideology. I wish you all could experience such a powerful exploration! - I wrote this a year ago, in this period.
As this text left a memory in precious people, I propose this again: a way to celebrate autumn, a season that inspired, and still inspires, me. - Everything that leads to the essence of many realities, mainly consists in removing rather than adding. To go slowly, you have to remove speed. To be more focused, you have to remove distractions (or at least practising in doing so). To aim to a more stable relationship, it is more important to remove tension and its probability of reoccurring rather than showing commitment and efforts. To rejoice in someone else's happiness, you have to remove obstacles. To decrease the amount of delusions, you have to remove expectations (or at least give them a lower importance). To communicate, you have to remove walls. To understand, you have to set free your presumption that you know already the truth. To unconditionaly cherish, that's easy to say, just remove conditions. Even a caress just need weight to be removed, nothing more. Last but not least, to achieve silence, you have to remove everything that generates its impossibility. From this last concept, the insight came to my mind. Try to remove voices, noises, sounds and here it is the silence, hugely celebrated by mountain hikers and practitioners of the most bizarre spiritual traditions. It looks like a paradox: you cannot touch it or see it, but it is achieved removing everything you can hear. However, you don't need to tell or explain this to a falling leave or a feather. - P.s. "If you want to learn something new, either you always do different things, or you do exactly the same and you observe how you change". This teaching, given to me as "motivation" to the repetitive nature of the Ashtanga Yoga practice, is eventually applicable to any daily activity. As a game, I proposed this approach to one of my favourite alpine lakes, that ended up meeting me more often than usual, let's say roughly every two months. The pictures here below, represent the 5 times I hiked to Lach da Saoseo (Val di Campo, CH) between February and today. A dynamic and cyclic painting of something that can only be experienced, never grabbed; because of this, it represented for me a very useful tool to practice "non-attachment", trying to extinguish one of the main reasons we suffer as human beings according to Buddhism (see also dukkha). Through this 8 months, the lake has been changing, I have been changing. It's hard to say who has been observing the other or even who had the idea to start all this. - P.s. See you in December!
